June Feature

Thu May 28, 2009, 6:38 PM
Hello everyone!

While I'm not sure that I'm a looked-at enough gallery to really justify featuring artists, I've decided that it would be cool if I showed off some of the talent that I've encountered through people who have used my stock. So, while I have some doubt that I'll ACTUALLY end up updating this once a month, that is my goal. I know it's not quite June, but I figured I could go on and post, since I'm thinking about it now and who makes those rules anyway?

**********So. After perusing dA related tutorials, I have come to find out that you can't put images into a journal of a nonsubscriber. This, I can assure you, is LAME. However, I am going to continue as is with two exceptions. I will be putting the [link] to each image and creating a folder within my favorites that contains the images that I wish to show off each month. This may prove to be too much/too frustrating, but I hope you will take the time to check out this work, as it is certainly worthy of a browse. Thank you, sorry for the inconvenience of not having money. If you want to give me a subscription, I'll make thumbnails out of the featured images. Thanks, mgmt.*************

My feature for June is :iconanalil: (Analil)

I encountered this artist when he sent me a link to one of my favorite photomanipulation that uses my castle image that people seem to like so much [link]

His image can be found at [link]

The reason that I love this image is twofold. First, I like the excess of subtleties like my castle hidden back in the clouds and the way that the dress feels like it is almost part of the cliff. The other, perhaps more important reason I love this image is that it uses a model that looks/feels/seems true and real. While I can accept that someone in her position couldn't actually exist, so many photo-manipulations I see seem to just have a woman stuck in front of a scene. This image truly USES her to speak to the viewer.

Other impressive works that I was able to dig up in Analil's gallery inlcude:

This factory image seems almost fantastical due to the lighting and probably something that he mentioned in the artist comments. Unfortunately, I don't speak a word of German, so I haven't the foggiest.

Now, I'm a sucker for staircases. If you look in my favorites on my art account [link] I suspect you'll find more than one flight of stairs. If not, then I recently cleaned out, but there used to be a handful. Again, this has the fantastical effect and is a beautiful image. Makes me think about the house on Paper St. in Fight Club.

[link]
This image has a kind of creepy feel to it in my opinion. Something that reminds me of Signs. Maybe it's just me, but I can see aliens crawling out of the screen in my direction.

[link]
Another landscape, but different and worthy in its own right. I love the composition, the lighting, and the color, all of which harmonize beautifully to set a rather gloomy mood.

[link]
I picked a third landscape instead of several other outstanding photographs to put here because, frankly, I preferred it. Beautiful photo, outstanding composition. If this hasn't won a prize somewhere, it should.

That's it for June. Maybe I'll Update in July

Stock Rules (Please):

a.) Comment on the image that you're using with a link to your manipulation. I would like to see your work.

b.) Credit me? Ask before you make anything into prints or before using any of my images for commercial work. Chances are I won't mind, but I'd like to know what's mine that's out there.

c.) Be polite. Please don't use any of my images for any vulgar or inappropriate work, however much you try to call it "art." It is not appreciated, and I will ask you to take it down.

Other than that, enjoy the photos and make great art!
